Guyana’s senior female football setup, the Lady Jaguars will officially kickoff their 2016 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifier today in Frisco, Texas against heavyweights Canada from 8:30pm.
It will be the second meeting between the two units the previous encounter occurring in 2010 during the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Canada were victorious in the matchup, winning 8-0.
Guyana is in Group B along with Trinidad and Tobago and Guatemala while world champions the United States of America (USA) heads group-A which is dubbed the ‘Group of death’ and features rivals Mexico, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica.
Upon the conclusion of the group stage, the top two teams will advance to the knockout round, with the resulting finalists earning berths to the Olympics.
The squad reads Goalkeepers Chante Sandiford, Simone Busby and Ruth George, Defenders Julia Gonsalves, Kelly Pelz-Butler, Justine Rodrigues, Briana DeSouza, Bria Williams, Leah- Marie Ramalho and Kayla DeSouza, Midfielders Mariam El-Masri, Alison Heydorn, Ashley Rodrigues (captain), Kailey Leila, Ashlee Savona, Dana Bally, Olivia Gonsalves, Brittany Persaud and Forwards Calaigh Copland and Otesha Charles.
Mark Rodrigues is the Coach while Clement Rodrigues, Richard Reynolds, Sheron Abrams and David Lawrence will serve as Assistant Coach, Goalkeeper Coach, Manager and Physiotherapist respectively.
