Dear Editor,
I am an ex-member of the Mounted Branch of the Guyana Police Force. I am very much concerned about the ranks of the Mounted Branch. The Mounted Branch I know deals only with horses, but now it deals with pigs, chickens and sheep as well as horses. The pigs and chickens are owned by an officer who also has horses, and the ranks at one branch (name provided) have to look after his things, while some horses’ feed that the police force buys to feed the horses is also used to feed these other animals.
Since when has the Guyana Police Force Mounted Branch become an animal rearing farm? Some of the police horses do not get all their feed because the officer takes it home. I would like the Commissioner of Police to look into that section.
Yours faithfully,
(Name and address provided)
Editor’s note
We sent a copy of this letter to Commissioner of Police, Mr Seelall Persaud, for any comment he might wish to make, and received the following response:
“I refer to your letter dated February 8, 2016 and wish to inform you that the Commissioner of Police received the same letter in June, 2015.
“The matter was investigated by the Office of Professional Responsibility that found some evidence of livestock rearing but no evidence of irregularities. The file was submitted to the Chairman, Police Complaints Authority who agreed that there is no evidence of irregularities.
“Based on a decision taken by the Force Administration, the rearing of livestock has since ceased.”
Ed note: The letter received by the Commissioner in June 2015 did not come from Stabroek News.
