Never known to back down from a challenge, Venezuelan, Felix Machado (26W-13L-1D) has stepped in as a late replacement to face Elton ‘The Bully’ Dharry on the ‘Hostile Territory’ card on February 27.
Dharry, (19W-5L-1D) was originally scheduled to face Panamanian, Israel Hidrogo but negotiations broke down, paving the way for the Machado/Dharry showdown at the Giftland Mall.
Machado, a former International Boxing Federation (IBF) super flyweight world champion will face Dharry in a 10-round bantamweight fight which will be the headline bout of the evening.
High profile fighters, Mandessa Moses, Dexter ‘De Kid’ Marques and Barbadian, Miguel ‘Hands of Stone’ Antoine will also be on the card.
Exciting prospect, Imran ‘Magic’ Khan is expected to make his second professional appearance as the GBBC tries to recreate a Las Vegas-like atmosphere for boxing fans at the Giftland Mall.
Moses will face debutant Ansilla Norville (four rounds), Marques (flyweight) takes on Machado’s countryman, Freddie Belano in a 10-round affair while Antoine faces Revlon Lake in a welterweight matchup. The Lake/Antoine bout is billed for eight rounds.
Khan is scheduled to lace it up against fellow Guyanese and lightweight prospect, Quincy Gomes.
There will be three amateur fights before the five-fight professional segment.
Olympic hopefuls, Dennis Thomas and Desmond Amsterdam will clash in the exhibition contest, followed by Clairmonte Gibson against Dillon Charles in a bantamweight fight.
Nandkumar Singh and Jason Phillips will headline the amateur segment in a junior welterweight bout.
“We are hoping that this will be an explosive card,” said President of the GBBC, Peter Abdool yesterday.
A knockout night of boxing is indeed on the cards.
Abdool disclosed last week that should Dharry (19W-5L-1D) and Marques (14W-2L) defeat Machado and Belano, the two prize fighters will challenge for the British Commonwealth bantamweight and flyweight titles here on May 21.
Admission for this month’s card is $5000 for ringside and $2000 for regular seating.
