Investigators managed to obtain two spent shells and two live rounds after a contractor had four shots fired at him, one of which grazed his abdomen, on Friday afternoon at Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD) during what is suspected to be an attempted robbery.
Stabroek News understands that the incident occurred around 5 pm on Friday while the victim was proceeding along Old Road, Eccles in his motor vehicle.
Reports revealed two men, one of whom was armed with a firearm, rode up alongside him, motioning him to stop. When he refused, a shot was fired at him, which grazed his abdomen. As he continued to drive three more shots were fired at his vehicle. The men then made good their escape.
According to reports, the motive of the men was to rob the victim since he was reportedly seen departing a popular business place on the EBD and they were under the assumption that he had cash in his possession.
While investigations into the matter are ongoing, a police source told Stabroek News that checks are also being made in the area to retrieve CCTV footage.
