After eight consecutive years at the helm Peter Green will not be seeking re-election when the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPF) holds its Annual General Meeting (AGM) today at the National Resource Centre on Woolford Avenue.
This is according to a release sent out to the media yesterday by the GAPF.
The experienced Green however stated that he will be available whenever called upon to lend his assistance and guidance to members of the new executive.
Today’s AGM is scheduled for a 10:30am start.
Under Green’s tenure, powerlifting ascended to Guyana’s most successful indoor sport with several medal hauls overseas and individual record breaking efforts by its lifters.
Last year was no different. The Guyana’s Men’s Open Team crowned an outstanding 2015 at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships in Vancouver, Canada with a flawless record haul of three gold medals (Osmond Mack, Marino Jeffrey, and Karel Mars) and a silver medal (Erwin Smith).
Rudolph Blackmon also lifted a gold in the men’s junior division, as did Britney Mack in the female sub-junior division. Gold medals were also won by the Men’s Masters Team which comprised Winston Stoby, Edwin Spencer and Nairanjan Singh.
Jeffrey and Osmond Mack were selected for random drug testing with results returning negative.
