South Ruimveldt brushed aside Central High 4-0 when the 4th Annual Milo Schools u-20 Football Championship continued yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue.
Junior Thomas opened the scoring in the 24th minute, tapping home into the empty net after the onrushing goal-keeper cleared the ball into the forward’s body within the centre of the box and it fell fortuitously in front of the goal.
Leon Charles made it 2-0 in the 34th minute as a right side cross evaded the grasp of the ‘keeper and the ball fell into his onrushing path for a simple finish within the left side of the box.
The rout continued in the 55th minute as Adrian Aaron scored, walking the ball into the back of the net after the goal-keeper missed the ball entirely in his attempt to clear a through pass.
Colin Jackman then completed the result in the 60th minute with a strike into the lower right corner from inside the penalty area.
Meanwhile, Bishops’ High trounced School of the Nations 5-1. Kofi Victorine, Shemar Britton, Joel Morrison, Mark John and Lemar Williams scored in the 24th, 28th, 30th, 32nd and 35th minute respectively.
On target in the loss was Raymond Perez in the 20th minute. In other results, Carmel Secondary defeated Sir Leon Lessons via walkover while Christ Church Secondary and Richard Ishmael battled to a scoreless draw.
Action is set to continue today at the same venue with four matches. In the opener, St. John’s College will lock horns with Tutorial Secondary from 11:00hrs while Freeburg Secondary will faceoff with St. Roses High from 12:30hrs.
In the third fixture at 14:00hrs, Charlestown Secondary will match skills with Mae’s Secondary while the final fixture of the day will pit Queenstown Secondary against former winner St. Georges Secondary from 15:30hrs.
Winner of the event will walk away with the championship trophy and $500,000 towards a school project.
On the other hand, the second, third and fourth place finishers will receive $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 correspondingly towards the funding of a school initiative and the respective trophy.
