The driver of the car that collided with a motorcycle at Annai, Region Nine last Thursday resulting in the death of three persons is out on bail and relatives are questioning why he has not been charged.
“We are disappointed that when three persons are dead, this man is walking on the street in Lethem and is driving,” Mike Williams, a relative of the deceased persons told Stabroek News yesterday.
Henry George, 59, his wife Belinda George, 48, and Belinda’s brother Davis Williams, 43, all of Annai, North Rupununi, died on Thursday following a horrific collision between a car and their motorcycle at Annai. The trio were on their way to the farm at the time. There were reports that the driver was speeding at the time.
Williams told Stabroek News that they were told by the officer in charge of the Annai police station that the driver of the car was out on $100 000 bail. He had been taken to the Lethem police station. Williams said that relatives are very upset and disappointed at how the matter has been handled. He said that the man should have been charged.
“The law is not protecting us,” Williams declared.
