A taxi driver of Lot 24 La Belle Alliance Housing Scheme is Essequibo’s latest road fatality after his car careened into a trench at Reliance.
Dead is 43 year Dennis Anthony Persaud.
According to information, at around 11.30 pm on Saturday, Persaud was alone in his car when the incident occurred at Reliance, Essequibo Coast, five villages away from La Belle Alliance.
According to persons living in the area, after hearing a loud splash residents rushed out to see what had caused the noise and saw the car which was turned turtle in a nearby trench. The residents immediately rushed to render assistance and Persaud was taken from the vehicle and rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital.
Speaking with this newspaper, Deon Persaud, the son of Persaud said that he was at home when he received a telephone call informing him that his father had been in an accident.
“It was around 11:30 when I got the call so my entire family went immediately to the scene of the accident.”
The man said that his father had left home at around 9:30pm to pick up a passenger.
“When we got to Reliance, they had already taken the body away to the hospital and the car was still partially in the trench. We then went to Suddie Hospital but when we got there we were told that he had already died. According to what we heard, persons said that the car wasn’t speeding so no one had any idea about what really occurred.”
The police were alerted and visited the scene of the accident. Investigations are ongoing.
