A Guyana Defence Force soldier is now critical at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was struck down by a speeding car on Saturday morning.
Stabroek News understands that Selwyn Woodroffe, 36, a sergeant of the GDF, was attempting to cross Church and Water streets when a speeding car hit him, sending him several feet across the road.
“Boy this thing happened so fast I can’t even remember exactly what happened. These drivers always speeding and don’t care about passengers. All I remember is the man trying to cross the road and all you hear is blam, a loud noise and when I turn and look I see the man on the ground knock out,” an eyewitness related to Stabroek News yesterday.
Woodroffe was subsequently rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and where he remains a patient.
The driver is currently in police custody as the investigations continue.
