Dear Editor,
President Granger has laid out a clear vision of our nation’s future, one where our motto of One People, One Nation, One Destiny can truly apply; a nation of law-abiding people with an equitable system of justice, and a clean, orderly society with opportunities for a good life for all. As we enter the 9th month of his presidency, it is obvious our President is sincere in his efforts, although what has sadly become evident is the undermining of these commendable goals by some of his ministers and their staff.
The recent actions of the Director of Public Information is only the latest in a growing line of contrary positions adopted or articulated; the DPI’s statement, “It appears as though there is confusion on the role and function of the DPI. GINA, for example, is also wholly funded by the taxpayers but its role is not to cover the opposition. It is to cover the elected government of the day,” is an inexcusable contradiction of the President’s position since his days as Leader of the Opposition that “the Government News Agency must cover all three branches of government, legislative, executive and judicial.”
The President also has to contend with his Prime Minister’s tales of woe about his days in the PPP, real or imagined. These stories serve no decent purpose and are at best divisive at a time when we are faced with grave economic dangers. Similarly, the Minister of Social Cohesion cannot defend the painting of the country in green and yellow as use of the “national colours.” To do so whilst wearing a green and yellow party scarf is farcical, and to simultaneously call for cooperation makes a mockery of the intent.
After careful observation of President Granger, I am wholly satisfied with the genuineness of his vision and intent; it is time the followers and political appointees realize the stumbling blocks they present, and that they are doing the President an injustice, and by extension our nation.
Time and tide wait for no man; let us not take the opportunities present in President Granger’s vision for granted. Tempus fugit.
Yours faithfully,
Robin Singh
