Michael Anthony Saturday won his second race of the 2016 cycling season in fine style winning the feature 35-lap event of the 25th annual R&R International multi-race programme.
In rainy conditions at the National Park, Williams of Team Gillette Evolution (TGE), took pole position in a brisk one hour, 15 minutes and 16 seconds.
Decked out in a crisp black and white team kit, Anthony led his club mate, Orville Hinds and Linden Bauxite Flyer’s Shaquel Agard onto the podium. Mario King of the Guyana Police Force, Alonzo Ambrose of the Guyana Defence Force and Andrew Hicks rounded out the top six rewarding positions.
Anthony launched his winning attack, late in the race as Hinds was satisfied to watch his teammate take his second victory in four starts.
Other winners of the programme included: Hicks (Juniors and Juveniles 10-laps), Zamal Khan (12-14 Boys and Girls), Warren’40’ McKay (Veterans U-50), Andrew Spencer (Veterans O-50), Monty Parris (Veterans O-60), John Niles (BMX 6-9 Years), Zab James (9-12), Adeelie Hodge (12-14).
Anthony and the rest of the peloton will take their talents to the open roads of West Demerara this morning to compete in the R&R International 40-mile race. The event will roll off from the Demerara Harbour Bridge at Schoonord from 08:00hrs proceed to Bushy Park, Parika and return to the point of origin for the finish.
