Spinners Veerasammy Permaul, Devendra Bishoo and Gudakesh Motie yesterday grabbed eight wickets among them to help the Guyana Jaguars defeat Trinidad and Tobago’s Red Force by 105 runs in their seventh round match of the West Indies Cricket Board’s Professional Cricket League four-day tournament at the Providence National Stadium.

The win helped the Jaguars, who are unbeaten in the competition, move to 101 points.

Yesterday the Jaguars declared their second innings on their overnight score of 244-4 with Skipper Leon Johnson unbeaten on 111 and wicketkeeper Anthony Bramble not out on 39.

The Red Force were set a target of 303 runs in the entire day’s play and though another Guyanese but one who plays for Trinidad and Tobago, Narsingh Deonarine dug in for a gritty half century, and Rayad Emrit blasted his way to two short of a half century, the spin triumvirate triumphed, spinning their wiles all over the other batsman.

Deonarine’s 57, his 46th regional half century, came in 201 minutes and from 141 balls with five boundaries while Emrit’s 48 came from a mere 51 balls and included nine boundaries.

Permaul continued his magic to snatch 4-45 in the second innings, adding to his first innings 5-65 for a match haul of 9-110 while Bishoo (2-56) and Motie (2-45) lent excellent support.

The Red Force began their run chase disastrously with pacers Keon Joseph (1-19) and Raymon Reifer (1-31) knocking over Kyle Hope (08) and his makeshift opening partner Imran Khan (11).

Then the spinners took over.

Permaul dismissed Yannic Cariah (09) (caught at forward-short leg by Tagenarine Chanderpaul) Captain Jason Mohammed (02) and Yannick Ottley (10) as the Red Force slipped to 75-5.

Evin Lewis (16), who was pushed down the order to accommodate the opening experiment of Khan, batted sensibly with Deonarine to take Red Force to 101-5 at lunch.

However, when play resumed, Chanderpaul took another good catch at forward short-leg off the left-arm Motie to remove the left-handed Lewis who struck three fours and a six in his 34-ball knock.

Wicket-keeper/batsman Steven Katwaroo was caught and bowled by Motie but Deonarine, in familiar conditions, struck a delivery from left-arm pacer Reifer for a straight boundary to reach his 50.

He would then be undone by his former Albion teammate Permaul who had him caught at cover by stand-in fielder Robin Bacchus which left the score 147-8.

Emrit then took over striking boundaries all around the ground but he mistimed a shot off Bishoo which landed safely in Joseph’s lap at long-off.

The final nail in the coffin was driven home by Permaul who had Marlon Richards caught as the Jaguars romped to their 13th consecutive win, minutes before tea.

Guyana Jaguars will battle the Barbados Pride in round seven of the competition at the Kensington Oval, Barbados.
