Georgetown Football Club (GFC) and Monedderlust FC battled to a scoreless draw when the Guyana Football Federation Stag Beer Elite League Finale continued on Sunday.
Played at the GFC ground, Bourda, versatile attacker Kieron Solomon almost gave the home side the lead in the 32nd minute.
Racing onto a lobbed pass in the centre of the box, Solomon flicked his first time effort towards the lower right corner, only to see his shot parried wide of the right upright by the onrushing goalkeeper.
On the other side, Pierre Joseph fashioned the best opportunity for the visitors in the 37th minute, unleashing a powerful free kick from 32 yards out in the centre of the field which was parried wide of the left post by the diving ‘keeper.
In the second period, Romario Welcome came close to breaking the deadlock for the home side in the 57th minute, directing his header just over the crossbar after collecting a cross within the centre of the box.
Similarly, substitute Linden Dorway placed his headed attempt wide of the lower left corner in the 69th minute as the home began to push further up field in search of the winner.
he visitors were then thwarted from taking the lead four minutes later as a curling left side free kick from Joseph was parried acrobatically by the ‘keeper at full stretch to his right.
The fixture eventually ended how it began, with the home side almost taking the lead as a powerful 32 yard strike from Welcome in the centre of the field, sailed just over the crossbar with the ‘keeper off his goal line.
Due to the result, both sides earn a point. Meanwhile the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) edged Buxton United by a 1-0 score line in the earlier fixture.
Olvis Mitchell separated the sides as he found the back of the net in the 72nd minute. With the win, the army unit collect three points while the loser remain pointless.
Action in the event is slated to continue on Friday 19th at the Tucville Community Centre ground with a doubleheader.
In the opening fixture at 18:00hrs, Vergenoegen unit Slingerz FC will tackle GDF while the feature contest at 20:00 will pit hosts Fruta Conquerors against Buxton United.
