Retrieve Raiders and Amelia’s Ward Jets secured convincing victories when the Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA)/104.3 POWER FM Mash Championships continued on Sunday.
Raiders dismantled Victory Valley Royals 67-40 at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Hard-Court in Linden. Dwayne Roberts top scored in the victory with 24 points while Keon Cameron supported with 17 points.
For the loser, Trevor Profitt netted nine points while Harold Adams scored eight points. The contest was effectively going into the half time interval as Raiders outscored their foe 36-13.
Raiders then extended their advantage in the third period, netting 17 points while restricting Royals to nine points to lead 53-22 going into the final stanza. With the contest already decided, Royals outscored Raiders 18-14 in the final period.
Meanwhile, Amelia’s Ward Jets brushed aside Falcons 75-57. Joel Webster netted 17 points in the rout while Jevon Nelson and Alastair Webster supported with 12 and 11 points respectively.
On the other side, Quincy Richards scored 12 points while Jamal Gilkes chipped in with 11 points. Jets seized control of the fixture in the first stanza as they outshot Falcons 27-11.
The lead was maintained in the second stanza as they outscored Falcons by a 16-15 margin to go into the half time interval ahead at 43-26. Falcons then marginally outscored Jets 18-16 as the third period ended with the latter in control at 59-44
Nonetheless, Jets sealed the outcome in the final period, netting 16 points to Falcons 13 points. The event will continue on Wednesday at the same venue with another doubleheader.
