A Rupununi man was yesterday placed on bail in a city court after he denied burglarising a village shop and stealing several items, including over $12,000 in beer.
It is alleged that between January 18 and January 19, Solomon Bartholomew, 32, of Waterman Village, Region Nine, broke and entered the Rupertee village shop and stole 38 tins of beer, valued at $12,920, and other items valued at $12,360, which were the property of the Rupertee Village Council.
Bartholomew pleaded not guilty to the charge, which that was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
The police prosecutor had no objections to bail, which was subsequently set at $20,000 bail by the Chief Magistrate. The case was transferred to the Lethem Magistrate’s Court, where Bartholomew’s next court date is set for May 31.
