A teenager, accused of stealing over half a million in valuables during a city robbery in which the victim was shot, was yesterday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
A Georgetown court heard that Shawn DeSantos, 18, of East La Penitence Squatting area, on December 31, 2015, at North East La Penitence, being in the company of others and armed with a gun, allegedly robbed Neil Marks of a quantity of gold jewellery and a cell phone, which were valued $506,000 in total.
DeSantos, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The police prosecutor objected to bail, while citing the seriousness of the offence and the fact that a gun was used during the robbery, in which Marks was shot. The items that were stolen from Marks were not recovered by the police and the police file remains incomplete, the prosecutor further said.
DeSantos was subsequently refused bail by the magistrate, who adjourned the matter until March 14 for statements.
