The Suriname senior national football squad is set to arrive Saturday ahead of their international friendly with the Golden Jaguars on Sunday at the National Stadium, Providence.
The Dutch nation is ranked 190th on the FIFA chart and is expected to arrive at 10:00am following an overland trip. They will then begin preparation immediately in their bid to acclimatize before the contest.
The Golden Jaguars commenced camp yesterday at the Signature Inn.
Under Trinidad and Tobago native Jamaal Shabazz, the Golden Jaguars, in a warm up encounter, defeated Alpha United 4-3.
The squad, which consists of predominantly local players, is Alex Murray (Alpha United), Solomon Austin (Alpha United), Joshua Brown (Alpha United), Colin Nelson (Alpha United), Trayon Bobb (Slingerz FC), Dellon Lanferman (Alpha United), Kester Jacobs (Slingerz FC), Vurlon Mills (Slingerz FC), Quincy Adams, Devon Millington (Pele), Mark McLean (Pele), Konata Manning (Pele), Gregory Richardson (Pele), Travis Grant (Pele), Jason Cromwell (Buxton United), Linden Pickett (GFC), Eon Alleyne (Fruta Conquerors), Jahaal Greaves (Fruta Conquerors), Trevon Lythcott (Fruta Conquerors) and Dwain Lindie (Fruta Conquerors).
Alpha United’s Daniel Wilson will also join the squad following his arrival on local shores today from his trial stint in the United States of America.
Wayne Dover will act as the Assistant Coach while Rawle Adams and Andrew Hazel are the Team Manager and Goalkeeper Coach respectively.
Anson Ambrose, Beverley Nelson, Trevor Burnette and Earl Paul will act as Trainer, Physiotherapist, Equipment Manager and Equipment Officer respectively.
The Golden Jaguars have been drawn in Group-5 of the 2016/17 CFU Caribbean Cup tournament which kicks off March-21st-29th.
The other members of the group are Puerto Rico and Anguilla.
Haiti, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago will not participate during the opening period due to their ongoing 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
Round two of the event is set to commence in May with the third round scheduled to begin in October. The fifth place playoff will take place in November while the grand finale will occur in May of 2017.
The top four teams at the conclusion of the event will qualify for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Guyana’s last international fixture was against St. Vincent and the Grenadines during 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Campaign in June of 2016.
The 2014 edition of the event witnessed Guyana making a first round exit, losing twice and securing one draw in their three matches with an inexperienced side featuring predominantly local players.
