A Hadfield Street man was remanded to prison yesterday after he was charged with armed robbery when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that Afiba Yankana, 26, robbed Kwanza Lambert of an Apple iPhone 4 valued at $140,000 on December 29, 2015, at Regent Street, while being in the company of others and armed with a knife. Yankana pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones objected to bail citing the gravity of the offence and that a weapon was used to carry out the robbery. Moreover, the prosecutor told the court the item Yankana allegedly stole from Lambert was not recovered.
Magistrate McLennan subsequently remanded Yankana to prison. His next court appearance will be on March 3 in Court 11.
