Dear Editor,
The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) wishes to bring to your attention an error contained in an article published in the February 17, 2016 edition of the Stabroek News captioned ‘Three customs workers held, baggage handler wanted over cocaine found on Dynamic flight.’
While it is understood that there is a need to publish information in a timely manner, such information should be accurate. The headline and information in the above-mentioned article erroneously stated that the officials in question are Customs Officers when in actuality the individuals are Immigration Officers. The GRA has been working hard at erasing the stain on its image and while this will not be done overnight, such errors can and do add to the negative perception a number of persons have as it relates to the authority.
The agency is therefore requesting that a correction be made at the earliest possible time and would hope that in the future, queries are made with the relevant authorities to verify the accuracy of information before publication.
Yours faithfully,
Melissa Baird
Public Relations Manager (ag)
Guyana Revenue Authority
