The quarterfinal fixtures of the second annual Guinness of the Streets West Demerara event have been cast in stone following the conclusion of the group stage on Tuesday at the Vergenoegen Rice Mill Tarmac.
Harmony Ballers-B will tackle Showstoppers while Bagotstown Warriors, Brothers United and Agricola Upsetters will oppose Shattaville Gunners, defending champ West Side Ballers and Harmony Ballers respectively today at the Pouderoyen Tarmac.
In the final round of group matches, Harmony Ballers-B dismantled Crane Raiders 3-0 compliments of an Nkosi Holder double in the third and 12th minutes and a solo effort from Kiefer Adams in the fifth minute.
Meanwhile, Bagotstown Warriors crushed Champion Boys by a 5-0 margin led by a Troy Bascom double in the 12th and 13th minutes. Assisting in the rout were Rufeo Wright, Rickford Henry and Eon Alfred who netted in the ninth, 14th and 24th minutes each.
On the other hand, Brothers United defeated last year’s losing finalist Showstoppers 3-2 on penalty kicks in an unbeaten top of the table clash.
Prior to the eventual outcome, Travis Martin gave Brothers United the lead in the 14th minute before Anthony Harding levelled proceedings in the 17th minute.
Similarly, defending champ West Side Ballers suffered their first defeat of the contest, going down to DeKinderen United 2-0.
With the champs place in the knockout round already sealed, the unlikely result occurred compliments of goals from Michael Bennett and Linden Bourne in the ninth and 21st minutes respectively.
Also amongst the winners on the night were Harmony Ballers, Agricola Upsetters, Shattaville Gunners and Best Road Ballers.
Harmony Ballers defeated Water Street Agricola 1-0 compliments
of a Verman Mentore strike in the 23rd minute while Agricola Upsetters downed Samaroo Dam 5-4 on sudden death kicks after normal time ended 1-1.
Michael Younge gave Upsetters the initial advantage in the 14th minute while Kevin Humphrey equalised for Samaroo Dam in the 16th minute.
Similarly, Shattaville Gunners downed Comfort Ballers 2-1 on penalty kicks after normal time ended score less while Best Road defeated its Patentia Street counterparts via walkover.
Due to Patentia Street’s failure to take the playing area, the event organizers have suspended the team and its players for one year.
Winner of the event will pocket $300,000 and the championship trophy while the second, third and fourth place units will walk away with $200,000, $100,000 and $50,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.
