Principal of ABC Academy Arthur Bernard Chandra was on Wednesday fined $25,000 and ordered to undergo counselling after being found guilty of unlawfully assaulting a former seven-year-old student.
Chandra, well known as ‘Sir Chandra,’ made his appearance before Magistrate Faith McGusty during an in camera hearing, where he was read the charge that on January 12, 2015, at New Market Street, he unlawfully assaulted the student.
According to the facts presented by Police Prosecutor Sean Blackman, the young boy was involved in a fight with another student in the classroom, which was brought to Chandra’s attention. As a result, as a means of punishing the lad, Chandra held on to his penis in front of the classroom and told him that “he would make sure that his penis don’t work again.”
Magistrate McGusty fined Chandra and ordered him to undergo six months of counselling or serve two months in jail in default.
