National Youth, Junior Track and Field C/ships set for next weekend

Ansa McAL announced yesterday that it will once again brand and sponsor the National Youth and Junior Track and Field Championships under the Smalta brand.

The pact’s financial magnitude was not disclosed but the amount was said to be substantial for the February 27-28 meet to be staged at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.

The meet will be the final litmus test for under 18 and under 20 athletes hopeful for places in Guyana’s team to the 45th CARIFTA Games to be staged over the Easter weekend in Grenada.

“There is nothing more important in this world than developing our youth in a positive manner,” said Ansa McAL’s Anjeta Hinds.

“We look forward to giving our young champions the opportunity to show off their amazing skills and excelling and we can only expect greater things from them. Smalta is happy to be onboard,” she added.

During the press briefing at Olympic House, Kingston, president of the AAG, Aubrey Hutson, said just like last year, this year’s edition of the event will be dubbed the ‘Smalta National Youth and Junior Track and Field Championships.’

Hutson also expressed his gratitude to the company for their continued support of the athletes.

“Again Ansa McAL has come onboard to sponsor this event in a major way and we thank them for the support they have shown to the AAG and to the development of our youths in athletics.

“These athletes are highly ranked at the senior level and as junior athletes they are really and truly doing great for themselves,” he added.

“With Smalta onboard now we are able to host a better tournament and we only hope that the athletes continue to support the brand since we know what Smalta can do for you as an athlete,” Hutson said.

The athletes are scheduled to get in the blocks from 10:00hrs daily. (Emmerson Campbell)
