Defending champions Chase Academy, Dolphin Secondary and Tucville sealed their berths in the knockout round of the fourth Annual Milo Schools u-20 Football Championships yesterday.
The unbeaten Chase Academy side crushed East Ruimveldt Secondary 7-0 in their final group fixture at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
Keith Caines recorded a hat-trick in the 44th, 47th and 52nd minutes while Jeremy Garrett netted a double in the 16th and 23rd minutes while Job Caesar also bagged a brace in the 36th and 50th minutes.
Dolphin’s Secondary secured their place in the next round by dismantling Cummings Lodge 6-1.
Leon Richardson registered a hat-trick in the 10th, 32nd and 34th minutes while Shawn Mohamed netted a double in the 55th and 67th minutes.
Starting the rout with a fifth minute effort was Joshua Perreira. On target in the loss was Elroy George in the 33rd minute.
Tucville Secondary mauled St. Winifred 9-0 with Calvin Peters netting a helmet trick in the 13th, 21st, 48th and 57th minutes while Keifer Brandt netted his four goal showing in the 3rd, 24th, 46th and 59th minutes.
Contributing in the win was Sherwin Reid in the 40th minute. Meanwhile, St. Mary’s fell agonizingly close to qualifying for the knockout round, defeating Kingston Secondary 2-1.
St Mary’s needed to win by two clear goals to seal a place in the knockout round but could only muster two through Andel Smith who netted in the fifth and 39th minutes.
On target in loss was Vincent Thomas in the 30th minute. Despite losing, Kingston Secondary sealed their berth in the knockout stages with four points and a goal differential of +1.
St. Mary’s ended with four points as well but a goal differential of zero. Action in the championships will continue today with three matches at the same venue.
In the opening game at 11:00hrs, North Georgetown will tackle St Joseph’s in the Woolford Avenue derby while in the second matchup will see Brickdam Secondary opposing Lodge Secondary from 12:30hrs .
The final matchup at 14:00hrs will witness North Ruimveldt matching skills with Queen’s College.
Upon the conclusion of the final round, the event will progress to the round of 16 stage. Winner of the event will walk away with the championship trophy and $500,000 towards a school project.
On the other hand, the second, third and fourth place finishers will receive $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 correspondingly towards the funding of a school initiative and the respective trophy.
