I want to say how gratified I am to have seen four cabinet ministers and many central government officials engaging with the public in Lethem at an outreach exercise today, Saturday February 20. The size of the crowd that turned out showed how much the people appreciate a government that takes the time to meet and listen to the concerns of ordinary folk.
Of course it is not for ministers to take up individual issues in detail. Their role is to make policy and ensure the public service carry it out. But it is reassuring to know that our top leaders are connecting with the grassroots. We in Lethem are hopeful that this vital and
successful public relations exercise will inspire a similar approach in the regional administration, and, in a month’s time our new town council.
