Inaugural losing finalists Showstoppers will face off with Shattaville Gunners in the finale of the 2nd annual Guinness of the Streets West Demerara Championships following semi-final wins Saturday.
Showstoppers overcame a dogged showing from Brothers United to win 2-1 in front of a packed Pouderoyen Tarmac in the feature semi-final showdown.
The home side took the advantage under fortuitous circumstances in the 29th minute as Adami Hoyte inadvertently directed the ball into his own net.
However, Hoyte quickly made amends for his error as he levelled proceedings one minute later to send the fixture into extra time.
Nevertheless, the home side would not be denied, securing their second consecutive berth in the final as talisman Marvin Josiah slotted home in the 44th minute. Meanwhile, Shattaville Gunners riddled Harmony Ballers 2-0.
Jeuel Stephens found the back of the net in the seventh minute and the result was completed in the 25th minute when Marvin Henry scored.
In the earlier exhibition encounter, the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) disconnected the Tournament Coordinators 2-1. Prior to the grand finale, the third place playoff will occur.
Winner of the event will collect $300,000 and the championship trophy while the second, third and fourth placed units will pocket $200,000, $100,000 and $50,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.
