A Guyana Gold Board lab technician has been charged with stealing $2.1M in gold from the entity.
A city court was told yesterday that Ronald Singh, 30, of Eccles, when questioned by police about the theft, reportedly handed over a gold bar.
Singh was read a charge that stated that on February 19, at Brickdam, he stole 8 ounces 9 grammes of gold, valued at $2.1 million and was the property of the Guyana Gold Board.
According to the prosecution’s facts, after the manager noticed the gold was missing, he called in police, who questioned the staff. When Singh was questioned, he reportedly handed over the gold bar to the police officer.
The accused was granted $200,000 bail on the condition that he lodge his travel documents with the court and report as necessary to the police. The matter was adjourned to March 10 by Magistrate Judy Latchman.
