Dear Editor,
Not since the heady days of Donald Haynes and Cecil ‘Skip’ Roberts as Crime Chiefs ably supported by the likes of Ignatius McRae, Vernon Gentle, Henry Chester, and Michael Marks, to name just a few, have I seen the kind of successes the Guyana Police Force through its Criminal Investigations Department is having these days. In all my years of association with the GPF Wendell Blanhum in contemporary times merits our warmest commendation for his perseverance in solving hitherto unsolvable mysteries. This is not to ignore the efforts and indeed successes of Winston Felix and Eddie Collins, both of whom in their own right were instrumental in ending the rampage of some of the worst perpetrators of organized crime and violence in this country.
Another person worthy of our appreciation is Clifton Hicken for taking on the challenging, arduous and (sometimes thankless) task as Commander ‘A’ Division within which resides the seat of government. Hicken continues to prove that notwithstanding the obstacles placed in his way that he is a professional whose duty it is to succeed in bringing crime down to levels that at this time only exist in our collective imagination. Editor what we are privileged witnesses to is responsiveness on the part of law enforcement.
Editor, I offer both Hicken and Blanhum our best wishes for further successes as they continue to promote and secure for all an environment free from the fear of crime.
