Police said yesterday that they have sent a file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions seeking advice on charges in relation to the early Monday morning crash on Carifesta Avenue.
Three vehicles were involved in the crash, which occurred near where soldier Robert Pyle and two others died in last month also after a three-vehicle collision. However, in this instance, while one vehicle upended in the Carifesta Avenue trench, no one was injured.
Stabroek News understands that PTT 9727 driven by Edward Marjorie, 44, of United States was proceeding west along Carifesta Avenue, when PJJ 2654 reportedly driven by a member of the Guyana Police Force suddenly pulled out from a parked position.
Anthony (only name given) a passenger of PTT 9727 told this newspaper that when Marjorie realized the vehicle was pulling out directly in his path, he attempted to drive around it, but at the same time another motor vehicle travelling east was overtaking and was directly in front of them.
The eyewitness said he heard the driver exclaim before they hit PJJ 2654 and the vehicle began spinning. Anthony said that before the car came to a stop the vehicle that had been overtaking also “clipped” PTT 9727, but that vehicle managed to dodge severe damage.
He added that within moments he heard a thunderous noise and saw PJJ 2654 in the canal.
Public-spirited citizens rushed to assist, and they helped the driver of PJJ 2654 out of the car. Persons were later seen in the canal, where the water was low, searching the interior of PJJ 2654.
A tow truck later pulled the vehicle out and persons immediately removed the number plate for unknown reasons.
Several senior policemen including Traffic Chief Dion Moore were at the scene of the crash.
