Ithaca Hard-liners downed New Amsterdam Warriors by a 50-48 score line when the Berbice Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) sanctioned Anamayah Memorial Basketball Championship continued on Sunday at the Ithaca Basketball Court.
Kevin Perry top scored in the come from behind victory with 16 points while Kester Sinclair was the next best scorer with 14 points. Chipping in with nine points was Phillip Edwards.
For the loser, Quincy Mickle led the way with 14 points while Kevin Thom and Shemar Murray assisted with 11 and seven points respectively. The opening period witnessed the visitors seizing the early control as they outscored the home side 9-7.
New Amsterdam built on their lead in the second stanza, netting 11 points to Ithaca’s seven points to enter the half time interval leading 20-14.
However the momentum of the contest changed sides in the third period as Hard-Liners reduced the deficit to two points, outscoring the Warriors by an 18-14 margin to trail 34-32 going into the final period.
Hard-liners then sealed the come from behind result as they outshot their foe by an 18-14 margin.
On another note, Smithfield Rockers has withdrawn from the championship. Action in the tourney continues on Sunday at Rose Hall court with Rose Hall Town Jammers facing off with arch-rivals Rose Hall.
The event which is slated to be played in an initial round-robin format, will see the eight teams divided into two groups. Group-A of the event will consist of Fyrish Black Sharks, Rose hall town Jammers, Canje Knights and Rose Hall.
On the other hand, group-B will comprise of Ithaca Hardliners, Hopetown Steelers and New Amsterdam Warriors. Following the conclusion of the group stage, the respective group winner and runner-up will progress to the knockout round
The eventual winner and runner-up of the tourney will walk-away with cash incentives and the corresponding trophies. On the individual side of the presentation, an award will also be given for the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
