A Sheriff Street, Campbellville resident on Wednesday appeared in court, accused of stealing money from a taxi driver, and was placed on $50,000 bail.
It is alleged that on February 19, at Ogle, East Coast Demerara, Steven Harrinanan, 21, stole $10,000 from Aubrey Cudjoe
Harrinanan, pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Sparendaam Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Better Hope Community Centre, where the court is temporarily being held.
Police Prosecutor David Goodridge, who had no objections to bail, said that on the day in question, the defendant was left in the virtual complainant’s taxi while he went into the Ogle airport for more passengers. When the virtual complainant returned to his car, the money he had left in the car and the defendant were gone. Acting on information, the police caught and arrested Harrinanan, the prosecutor told the court.
Harrinanan was subsequently granted bail and was ordered to make a second appearance in court on April 27 for fixture.
