Riddim Squad and Sunburst Camptown secured hard-fought wins when the GFA/Stag Beer League continued Thursday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground.
The Mocha-based unit downed the Guyana Police Force (GPF) 1-0.
Reduced to 10 men in the 33rd minute after Steffon Ramsay was sent off for dissent, Riddim Squad snatched the result in the 80th minute compliments of a fortuitous Wendell Josh effort.
The incident occurred following a left side corner kick which ignited a goalmouth scramble, with the resulting Josh strike from the right side taking a severe deflection off a defender and settling into the lower left corner.
Meanwhile, Campbellville based giant Sunburst Camptown squeaked past Beacons FC 2-1 in the feature contest.
Anthony Sancho opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, finishing through the legs of the advancing goalkeeper into the lower right corner while fighting off the challenge of his marker at the top of the box.
The eventual scoreline was then sealed in the 68th minute as Sancho completed his double.
Racing onto through pass after the ball was stolen from the defender, the forward, upon cutting across the box from the right side, placed his left footed effort into the lower left corner despite the desperate challenge by a trailing defender to clear the danger.
Beacons eventually pulled one back in the 83rd minute as Royston Dublin scored, flicking the ball over the challenge of the onrushing ‘keeper following a lobbed pass, before placing his effort into the empty net from the right side of the box.
The championship continues Tuesday with another doubleheader.
