Agricola resident Rudival Azore, who was struck down by a vehicle a little over two weeks ago, succumbed at a city hospital on Friday morning and his family is seeking answers as to why the driver was never apprehended although there are doubts as to who exactly hit him.
Azore, 63, also known as ‘Tall boy,’ was struck down around 7.30 am on February 13 at the corner of Brutus Street, Agricola, East Bank Demerara (EBD). He sustained injuries to his pelvis, his intestines had shifted and there were other minor injuries about his body. He was admitted at the St Joseph Mercy Hospital in a critical condition. However, on Thursday afternoon, he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where he took his last breath.
Contacted yesterday, a close relative, who preferred not to be named, confirmed his death. The woman said he died around 5.30 am on Friday at the GPH Accident and Emergency Unit (A&EU) while receiving medical attention.
The relative expressed concerns about the accident, while noting that there has been an ongoing “blame game” between the owner of the car who allegedly hit Azore and his wife.
The woman said based on information she received from numerous villagers, it was a woman who was driving the car at the time but the owner has been claiming that he was driving the vehicle.
The woman also lamented that on numerous occasions she requested that a police officer visit Azore in order to obtain a statement from him before his condition worsened but no action was taken.
Azore’s family, according to her, had spent over $2 million for him to receive medical attention and only received a small amount from the owner of the car.
Since his admittance, Azore underwent surgery to fix his pelvis and he was scheduled to undergo another. An autopsy is expected to be performed on his remains tomorrow.
