Christ Church and Bishops’ High sealed their places in the knockout round of the fourth annual Milo Schools U20 football championships yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
Christ Church Secondary dismantled Carmel Secondary 4-0 in their final group fixture.
Brad Evans led the rout with a double in the 22nd and 27th minutes respectively while Waynewright Adams and Shamar Carrington netted in the 30th and 56th minutes respectively.
Bishops’ High downed Central High 3-1 with Lloyd Anderson opening the scoring for Bishops in the 12th minute, finishing into the right corner from within the right side of the box.
It then became 2-0 in the 21st minute when Shamar Britton scored compliments of a right footed strike from within the box into the roof of the net. The score ballooned once more in the 58th minute as Romeo Bradford added his name to the scorer’s sheet, finishing unchallenged into the back of the net from the centre of the box, after an initial strike was parried into his path by the goalkeeper.
Central High eventually recorded a consolation goal two minutes later as James Walcott placed his strike into the lower left hand corner from within the box.
Meanwhile, School of the Nation’s and South Ruimveldt battled to a 1-1 stalemate.
Lyndon Dorway scored for School of the Nations in the 43rd minute, slotting home into the back of the net from within back of the net. However South Ruimveldt earned a hard fought point as Junior Thomas netted to the right corner from within the box in the 56th minute.
In other results, Richard Ishmael defeated Sir Leon Lessons via walkover following the latter’s withdrawal from the event.
Action in the event continues today at the same venue. In the opening fixture at 11:00hrs, former winner St. George’s will oppose Tutorial High while Queenstown will lock horns with St. John’s College at 12:30hrs.
In the third fixture at 14:00hrs, Charlestown Secondary will oppose Freeburg Secondary while Mae’s Secondary will battle St. Roses High in the final fixture at 15:30hrs.
Upon the conclusion of the final round, the event will progress to the round of 16 stage. Winner of the event will walk away with the championship trophy and $500,000 towards a school project.
On the other hand, the second, third and fourth place finishers will receive $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 correspondingly towards the funding of a school initiative and the respective trophy.
