A Haslington man was on Friday remanded to prison after being charged with armed robbery.
It is alleged that on February 8, at Vlissingen Road and Lamaha Street, Andre Dowridge, 26, of 232 Haslington, East Coast Demerara, while being in the company of others and armed with an ice pick, robbed Leon Anthony of a gold chain and a laptop, which were valued at $300,000 in total.
Dowridge, who is a phone technician by profession, pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Police prosecutor Deniro Jones objected to bail. Dowridge was arrested after he was spotted by Anthony in the same area. When the police arrived, Dowridge was identified by Anthony as the person who robbed him.
Dowridge was subsequently remanded to prison until March 14.
