Sonia King, the woman who allegedly strangled her eight-year-old son at their La Parfait Harmonie home one week ago, was on Friday remanded to prison after she was charged with the crime.
King, of Lot 505 La Parfait Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD), is accused of murdering Emmanuel King. She was not required to plead to the charge when she appeared before Magistrate Rochelle Liverpool at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court. She was remanded to prison until March 21.
Sonia King had initially told police investigators that her son and his nine-year-old cousin were picking guavas from a tree located opposite their home when he fell seven feet to the ground.
She then rubbed his body and shortly after he proceeded to bed. Upon making a check on him later the same evening, she said he was discovered lying motionless on the bed. He was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital around 10pm on Sunday but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Sonia was arrested by the police on Wednesday after she reportedly confessed to the child’s father that she strangled him with a bed sheet since he was being “wicked” and wasn’t taking his school work seriously.
A post-mortem examination performed on the dead child’s remains revealed that he died as a result of strangulation.
