Northern Rangers overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat Beacons FC 3-2 when the GFA/Stag Beer League continued on Wednesday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground.
It was an inspired second half showing from the Kitty-based unit as they erased goals from Chris Galloway and Desmond Cottam in the ninth and 52nd minutes respectively to secure the unlikely result.
Omalli Nassy led the way with a brace in the 60th and 65th minutes while Sunil Logan capped off the win with a 72nd-minute strike.
Prior to the dramatic conclusion, the matchup started positively for Beacons as Galloway opened the scoring compliments of a curling right-foot free kick from the top of the box into the right corner.
With the score remaining unchanged going into the half interval, Desmond Cottam made it 2-0 upon the resumption, volleying a right-foot strike into the left corner from the right side of the box, after racing onto a pass following a one-two pass combination with Andre Trotz outside the area.
Despite Beacons’ significant lead, the comeback result soon commenced as Nassy cut the deficit with a simple finish into the left side, after collecting a right-sided cross within the box.
The fixture was then turned on its head as Nassy recorded his second to level proceedings skipping past the onrushing keeper following a half-hearted challenge outside the centre of the box, before finishing into the empty net.
The come-from-behind win was eventually sealed in the form of Logan whose mistimed right- foot volley from the top of the box looped over the head of the keeper and settled into the right corner. Meanwhile, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) arrested Flamingo by a 1-0 score line in the opening fixture of the night.
Tear-away forward Quincy Holder was the difference on the night in the bruising affair, netting in the 86th minute.
Racing into the centre of the box, Holder bundled his right-foot attempt into the middle of the net, after collecting a left side pass.
Prior to the end, Lerone Charles missed a great opportunity to give GPF the lead in the 34th minute, rifling his effort over the crossbar from the right side of the box with only the keeper in his path.
Joel Chisholm was the next guilty party in missing the target for the officers two minutes later, chipping the ball over the crossbar from within the six-yard box, after latching onto a headed pass following a cross into the area.
Similarly, Holder also spurned a great opportunity in the 40th minute as he flashed his first-time right-footed shot over the crossbar, following a flat left-side cross. The championship is slated to continue tomorrow at the same locale with another doubleheader.
In the opening fixture at 18:30hrs, Riddim Squad will oppose Sunburst Camptown while Western Tigers will tackle Santos in the battle of the unbeaten sides at 20:30hrs.
