It will be Slingerz FC against the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) and Fruta Conquerors tackling the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) when the League Finale of the GFF Stag Beer Elite League continues today at the GFC ground.
Sitting one point adrift of the leader Alpha United, the Vergenoegen side will attempt to make it three wins in as many games when they take the field at 20:30hrs against the home side.
Slingerz FC will start the matchup as the favourites due to their current form and head- to-head record against the Bourda unit. Presently Slingerz FC has one win and a draw in their two previous encounters with GFC.
In terms of their current numbers, Slingerz has netted a joint leading eight times to date highlighted by their 7-1 drubbing of GDF. Defensively they have only conceded one goal which is the best record thus far.
The West Demerara unit will look to their star-studded roster inclusive of Vurlon Mills, Quincy Adams, Kester Jacobs, Trayon Bobb and Devon Millington to fire them to the top of the standings.
On the other hand, the home side are yet to secure a win in the event after suffering a loss and a draw in their previous fixtures.
While they will enter the matchup as underdogs, GFC can spring the surprise result and will need a collective showing led by Linden Picketts, Shad Fernandes, Romario Welcome, Linden Dorway, and Curtez Kellman if they are to be successful.
Meanwhile, the opening fixture is expected to be a keen tussle when the army unit take aim at Fruta Conquerors from 18:00hrs. It will be the third meeting of the sides, with the Tucville unit enjoying the better results with one win and a draw.
Similarly, Fruta Conquerors enjoy a better position on the standings at third and will enter the matchup in a confident mood following their 2-1 win over Buxton United.
Once more they will look to the likes of Trevon Lythcott, Jahaal Greaves, Eon Alleyne, Shaquille Agard, Jermaine Junior
and Dwayne Lindie to fire them to a positive result.
On the other side, the army unit will aim to reverse their current slump following a devastating loss to Slingerz FC in the prior matchup and will require an inspired showing led by the quartet of Delwyn Fraser, Oswald Cornette, Delroy Fraser and Tyson Carmichael if they are to be victorious.
Upon the conclusion of the League Finale round, the top four finishers in terms of points will face off against each other in single knockout format to decide the winner of the round.
The semi-final round will commence on May 12th while the finale and third place playoff will occur on May 23rd. The point’s leader will face off with the fourth-placed side while the second positioned club will tackle the third positioned unit at a venue to be announced.
Winner of the League Finale round will pocket $4,000,000 while the second, third and fourth place teams will collect $2,000,000, $1,000,000 and $500,000 respectively.
Similarly, the point’s leader prior to the knockout stage in the League Finale round will pocket an additional $1,000,000.
The season champion will then be crowned when the winner of the League Genesis and League Finale respectively face off in a single matchup. That winner will then earn an automatic berth at the CFU level.
If the winner of the League Genesis and League Finale rounds are the same team, they will earn the automatic CFU spot, with the second berth going to the team with the most accumulated points in both rounds non-inclusive of the eventual season champion.
Likewise, if one team wins both sections of the championship, they will face off with an All-Star team instead of competing in a season playoff.
