A man was yesterday remanded to prison after a city court heard that he was busted with just under one kilo of cannabis after selling the drug to an undercover policeman.
It is alleged that on March 1st, Akeem Archer had in his possession 907 grammes of cannabis for trafficking.
Archer, who appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, denied the charge.
According to the prosecution, at North Ruimveldt on March 1st, a plain clothes officer from the Narcotics Branch conducted a sting operation where he purchased two grammes of cannabis from the accused. The prosecution added that as the officer was about to close the transaction by paying the defendant, ranks who were nearby approached and made the arrest. A search was conducted and the cannabis was uncovered.
In an attempt to present special reasons why Archer should be granted bail, the man’s lawyer stated that his client is due to undergo surgery later this month. His request for bail was, however, denied by Magistrate Azore, who stated that a warrant would be endorsed for Archer’s surgery to be completed on the appointed date. The matter is set to be called again on March 30th.
