Allan Sim Jr, son of Allan Sim, who is charged with the murder of the Georgetown Hospital ambulance dispatcher Melissa Skeete, was yesterday charged as being an accessory to the crime.
In a Georgetown court, Sim Jr, 20, was read a charge that while knowing that his father had murdered Skeete, he gave comfort and assistance to him on November 25th, 2015.
Police alleged that Skeete was stabbed on November 23rd, 2015 and tossed from a car onto a city street by Sim, her common-law partner. The woman, who had been bleeding profusely, succumbed to her wounds later that night.
According to the facts presented by the prosecution, Sim Jr received a call from his father, who asked him to clean bloodstains from the vehicle that Skeete was stabbed in. As a result, police say the accused then took the car to the East Coast and destroyed the evidence and removed the licence plate.s The court was told that Sim Jr gave an oral statement admitting to his involvement. It was also told that the police were trying to locate the accused for some time until until he appeared in the court for an unrelated matter.
This claim, however, was challenged by attorney Patrice Henry, who represented the accused. Henry told the court that he and his client made several trips to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for another matter and he was never arrested by the police, despite their claim that they were looking for him.
Henry stated that he can attest to the fact that his client never gave an oral statement to the police that would implicate him in the matter. A request was then made by Henry to have his client released on his own recognisance.
Despite the arguments presented by Henry, Magistrate Fabayo Azore remanded Sim Jr to prison. The matter is due to be called again on April 1st.
