Defending champs Chase Academy along with South Ruimveldt, Christ Church and North Georgetown claimed the remaining quarterfinal berths when the fourth annual Milo Schools U20 football championships continued yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
Chase Academy downed Kingston Secondary 3-1. Kelsey Benjamin opened the scoring in the seventh minute, slotting into the back of the net from within the box.
Kingston leveled the fixture in the 16th minute as Vincent Thomas scored, placing the ball into the left corner past the advancing ‘keeper.
However, the holders retook the lead one minute later as Ryan Hackett rifled a left foot shot from 30 yards out in the centre of the field which sailed into the top left corner.
Sunil Logan then sealed the result as he found the back of the net in the 29th minute, stabbing his effort from inside the box into centre of the net.
Similarly, South Ruimveldt downed Mae’s Secondary 4-3 on penalty kicks after normal and extra time finished 1-1.
Prior to the end, Mae’s took the lead in the 29th minute through an own goal as a free kick from the top of the box was inadvertently directed into the back of the net by the defender.
Nonetheless South Ruimveldt leveled the score in the 55th minute as Cecil Jackman blasted a right footed effort into the lower left corner from within the box.
Meanwhile, Christ Church Secondary defeated Queenstown Secondary 3-1. Waynewright Adams, Rahul Alpin and Shamar Carrington scored in the 19th, 46th and 61st minutes respectively for the winning team while on target in the loss was Kellon Blue in the 28th minute. Also North Georgetown downed St. John’s College 4-2. Nehemiah Gomes, Daniel Nedd, Osafo Nedd and Christopher Waddell scored in the 41st, 51st, 74th and 83rd minutes respectively.
Scoring in the eighth and 30th minutes were Darien Dickson and Joel Yhap respectively. The event will now move to quarterfinal round which is set to commence on Sunday at the same locale.
The matchups in the round will witness Chase Academy opposing North Georgetown, Queens College tackling Bishops High, Christ Church tackling South Ruimveldt and Lodge Secondary battling Dolphin Secondary.
Winner of the event will walk away with the championship trophy and $500,000 towards a school project.
On the other hand, the second, third and fourth place finishers will receive $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 correspondingly towards the funding of a school initiative and the respective trophy.
