A North Ruimveldt minibus driver was yesterday charged with causing the death of septuagenarian William Trim, who died Saturday following a vehicular collision at Aubrey Barker Road.
The Georgetown Magistrate’s Court heard that Sherwin Hopkinson, 30, of 78 Kaikan Street, North Ruimveldt, on March 5th, at Aubrey Barker Road, drove minibus BVV 1302 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Trim.
Hopkinson pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecution’s facts stated that on the day of the accident, Hopkinson was driving along Aubrey Barker Road when he overtook several vehicles and lost control of the bus. This resulted in him colliding with motor car PFF 8165, which was being driven by Trim, who was turning south into his driveway. The prosecutor stated that the car ended up some feet away, turning turtle, and that Trim was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the hospital, where he later died receiving medical attention.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan granted bail in the sum of $800,000 after the prosecution did not object to such and adjourned the mater to March 30th. Hopkinson’s licence has also been suspended until completion of his trial.
It was previously reported that Trim, of Wren Avenue, South Ruimveldt Gardens, and another man were injured in an accident on Aubrey Barker Road Saturday afternoon. Trim, who later succumbed to his injuries, was the driver of the car involved in the crash, while the other individual, who was unidentified, was a passenger in the Route 41 minibus driven by Hopkinson.
