Another chapter in their rivalry will be written tonight when league leaders Slingerz FC oppose second placed Alpha United in the League Finale tournament of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Stag Beer Elite League at the Tucville ground.
This will be the fourth showdown between the teams since the commencement of the event.
Slingerz FC sits atop the points standings with nine points from three matches followed closely by Alpha United who are on seven points from three games.
Slingerz FC will enter the contest as the favourite due to their superior recorded in the event. In their three previous meetings, the Vergenoegen unit has secured two wins and one draw, netting four goals while conceding twice.
Slingerz seems to be the most balanced team netting 10 goals, the most by a club to date, mainly through the efforts of Vurlon Mills, Julian Wade, Trayon Bobb, Domini Garnette and Devon Millington.
They have allowed only one goal scored against them, the best record so far with Quincy Adams, Kester Jacobs, Les Charles Critchlow and Tichard Joseph, the men responsible.
Alpha United are statistically the second best team in the championship. From an attacking perspective, they have scored eight goals, led by Anthony Abrams Delon Lanferman, Daniel Wilson and Dwight Peters,
Defensively, the Georgetown unit following the acquisition of former Slingerz FC players inclusive of Colin Nelson, Solomon Austin and Joshua Browne has only conceded twice.
The feature contest will pit home side Fruta Conquerors against Berbice unit Monedderlust FC from 20:30hrs. The hosts currently sit third on the standings with seven points and will hope to make up the stride on the leaders.
The fixture will be the third clash of sides, with the Tucville unit earning two hard-fought win compliments of a 2-1 result and a 1-0 score. With regards to the numbers, Fruta Conquerors has netted five times in their three matches.
Shaquille Agard and Jahaal Greaves leads a capable strike force inclusive of Eon Alleyne, Jermin Junior, Hubert Pedro, Okeene Fraser and Jamal Codrington with three and two goals respectively.
On the defensive side of the ball, Trevon Lythcott marshals a backline which has conceded three and featuring the likes of Adrian Adonis, Reshawn Sandiford, Delon Williams, O’Neil Carter and Raphael Edwards.For the Berbice unit, a win is needed as they sit in the cellar position with one point. In attack, they have only scored once, which is the worst record in the event. Much more will be expected from the young strike force led by Kevin Cottoy and Pierre Joseph.
They have conceded six goals, which is the third worst record. Like the offence, this facet must also improve for the Berbicians who will be led by the trio of Travis Henry, Kevin Layne Jr and custodian Alwyn McDonald.
Upon the conclusion of the League Finale round, the top four finishers in terms of points will face off against each other in single knockout format to decide the winner of the round.
