Three youths who were allegedly involved in robbing a French national of over $200,000 in cash and valuables were yesterday discharged after no evidence was offered against them.
The matter which was called in a city court before Magistrate Judy Latchman accused Clifton Charles, Alpha McPhoy and Jamal Edwards of robbing French national Muriel Treibich.
Under oath the Frenchwoman stated that she wished to offer no evidence against the accused as long as her items were returned, emphasizing the need for her passport given that she had to travel yesterday. Magistrate Latchman subsequently discharged the accused and ordered that Treibich be returned her passport and any other identifiable items.
It was alleged that on March 6, at North Road and Shiv Chanderpaul Drive, Georgetown, the three accused robbed Treibich of a phone valued €300, a handbag, valued $43,000, €200, a pair of sunglasses valued $21,000, a French passport, an identification card, 2 Master cards, a Visa card and $35,000, amounting to $209,500. It was alleged that during the robbery, which allegedly occurred around 3:50 pm, personal violence was used by the accused.
