A Guyhoc man, who was charged with allegedly robbing two persons of more than $100,000 in cash and valuables, was yesterday granted bail by a city magistrate.
David Whaul, who was charged last month with robbing Ravenna Bartley and Jamal Pyle, was granted a total of $150,000 bail on the two counts of armed robbery.
Bail was granted after the defendant’s lawyer made a bail application during which it was noted that his identification by those he allegedly robbed is uncertain. The lawyer also said Whaul is one of the main breadwinners for his family and also highlighted the present condition of the Camp Street prison, which saw the deaths of 17 inmates last week after a protest about conditions at the facility.
It was alleged that on February 14th, at Georgetown, being in company of another and armed with an object, Whaul robbed Bartley of a cellular phone, valued $90,000, a phone case, valued $7,500, a wallet, valued $6,000, $1000 and a Republic Visa Card, all having a total value of $104,500. It is also alleged that on the same day, at the same place, Whaul robbed Pyle of a silver chain, valued $20,000, a phone valued $38,000 and $6,000, totaling $64,000.
The matter was adjourned by Magistrate Fabayo Azore to April 18.
