The APNU+AFC Cabinet should be making a public comment on the findings of the Commission of Inquiry into the death of Dr Walter Rodney as soon as next week.
This is according to President David Granger who told Stabroek News yesterday that the cabinet has begun deliberations on the report.
The President also declared that he stands by his comment that the inquiry was flawed.
“I always supported an inquiry. I always supported an international inquiry,” the President said before noting that he believed that terms of reference of this particular inquiry were prejudicial and the sloth unacceptable.
“The sloth was unacceptable; it took exactly two years. I stand by my criticism. I don’t believe some of the actions taken by the commission in excluding evidence of the deputy commissioner who conducted the investigation at the time was justifiable and I resent any allegation that any action on the part of my government led to the premature termination of inquiry. Between President (Donald) Ramotar and myself six extensions were granted. I believe the commission had every reasonable opportunity to interview witnesses who had evidence to offer. I think the inquiry was not efficiently conducted and I stand by that,” President Granger maintained.
