A man who was a victim of a hit-and-run accident on Saturday remains a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) in an unconscious state and the driver is yet to be apprehended.
Injured is Prem Darshan Budhoo, 44, an upholstery worker of Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.
Budhoo, who is mute, was struck around 8.30pm along the Lusignan Embankment Road and sustained mainly head injuries as a result, including swelling to the brain.
His sister, Annie Budhoo, told Stabroek News that at the time of the accident, Prem was riding home while returning from a shop in the area.
She said she received a call from a villager informing her that he was hit down and was already on the way to the hospital. As a result, she immediately left for the hospital, where she saw him lying in an unconscious state and bleeding from his head.
Upon enquiring about the driver, she was told that he fled the scene. “All I was told is that it was a white car. Everybody say they didn’t see nothing, they just hear a hard noise and when they run out they see the white car already speeding down the road,” she stated. “We don’t even have his car number or anything, how we suppose to find him?” she added in frustration.
The woman is therefore calling for the driver to turn him/herself in so the family would be able to find out what exactly transpired.
She explained that the police were informed about the incident. “They come one time and take some information and say they will come back but they never did,” she stated.
