The second retrial of Calvin Bailey, who is accused of murdering his 18-month old son, commenced yesterday morning before Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and a 12-member jury at the High Court, in Georgetown.
The charge against Bailey is that on April 4th, 2007, at Amelia’s Ward, Linden, he murdered Shaquan Nero.
The man has pleaded not guilty.
Nero is alleged to have mortally injured the child after attacking his (Shaquan’s) mother and his then partner, Bernadette Nero. He allegedly stabbed the child to death as he attacked Nero.
In 2013, Bailey’s two former trials both ended in hung juries. The trial continues this morning at 9.
The state is being represented by prosecutors Michael Shahoud and Orinthia Schmidt. Meanwhile, Bailey is represented by attorney Peter Hugh.
