Fire guts Avinash bond at LBI

An Avinash Stores clothing bond was gutted by fire early yesterday morning at La Bonne Intention, East Coast Demerara.

“Brother, I de deh in my room sleeping and all I start smelling is smoke and I keep turning, turning because it de uncomfortable and when I open me eyes is thick, thick smoke I see and I run out me house,” a resident who lives next door to the bond told Stabroek News yesterday. He said he suspected that the fire started around 12AM and when he rushed out of his house he alerted the other neighbours who called the fire service and assisted him in throwing water on his wooden house so as to prevent it from catching afire.

“Well people don’t really deh and they mussy does come once every month and visit the place so I don’t know but I remember hearing something blow up and then like couple minutes after you see the smoke and then the fire just appear,” another resident explained to Stabroek News.

Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the cause of the fire.
