Dear Editor,
The travails and troubles which would face many of the ratepayers from LBI to Better Hope on the East Coast of Demerara at the upcoming local government elections cause one to ask whether they should bother to make the effort to go out and vote!
Many are concerned that the same erstwhile councillors would be back on that inefficient, ineffective NDC. Some councillors were the product of a previous corrupt national system and were servants of former government bureaucrats who could influence the decision-making process. In the case of this NDC it would be better to have an interim committee made up of men and women who are prepared to serve the ratepayers, and then maybe ratepayers might get better services.
Another matter facing that council is its administrative personnel, who cannot manage the work of the garbage crew who are more inclined to politics than collecting rubbish, and one of whom is more interested in his personal taxi business.
Ratepayers are fed up with this NDC as most of the drainage channels and culverts are currently blocked up with bushes and silt, and garbage is piling up on the roadways. There is a plethora of problems facing the NDC and an in-depth government investigation would be a worthwhile exercise.
Yours faithfully,
