Holders Chase Academy will oppose South Ruimveldt while Lodge Secondary will tackle Queen’s College in the semi-finals following quarterfinal wins in the 4th Annual Petra Organization/Milo Schools U20 Football Championship yesterday.
Staged at the Ministry of Education ground, Chase Academy downed North Georgetown 3-0.
Ryan Hackett opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a left footed shot into the right corner from outside of the box.
Hackett then made it 2-0 compliments of a header from within the right side of the box, after latching onto a cross.
The score line was sealed in the 52nd minute as Kelsey Benjamin finished into the lower right corner from within the centre of the box, after collecting a pass from Keith Caines.
Meanwhile, South Ruimveldt defeated Christ Church 3-0. Cecil Jackman netted a double in the 23rd and 35th minutes while Leon Charles scored in the 47th minute.
On the other hand, former winner Lodge Secondary downed Dolphin Secondary 3-0 on penalty kicks after normal and extra time ended 1-1.
With a winner unable to be found at end of normal and extra time, Dolphin Secondary commenced the matchup in the worst possible manner as Shawn Mohammed was denied by the keeper.
Lodge quickly capitalised on their opponent’s failure as the netted from the mark. It went from bad to worse for Dolphin Secondary in the second round as Leon Richardson was denied from the mark.
Similar to the first round, Lodge made no mistake from the distance to take a 2-0 lead. Needing to convert in their third attempt to keep the fixture alive, Dolphin sealed their own faith as they missed once more.
Lodge then sealed their place in the next round as they scored in their third attempt. Prior to the conclusion, Leon Richardson gave Dolphin the initial lead in the 13th minute while Shemar Dover equalised in the 52nd minute.
Similarly, Queen’s College edged arch rival Bishops’ High 4-2 on penalty kicks after normal time concluded 1-1.
Stephen King opened the scoring in the 23rd minute for Queens College whilst Tyrese Souvenir levelled proceedings in the 43rd minute.
Upon the conclusion of the quarterfinal stage, the semi-final round will commence on Wednesday at the same venue with the final billed for three days later.
